M16, Eagle Nebula (NGC6611)
A nebula composed mainly of ionised hydrogen glowing red in the Hα line, together with dark dust clouds. At its centre are the Pillars of Creation, dense regions where new stars are forming. It includes an open star cluster containing massive O- and B-type stars whose intense radiation shapes the nebula.
