WR134 – Wolf-Rayet Star (HOO)

WR134 is a WN6 spectral-type Wolf-Rayet star in the constellation Cygnus. It is a very hot star, rich in nitrogen and helium and almost devoid of hydrogen, at an advanced stage of its evolution. It sheds its outer layers through an extremely fast, dense stellar wind that shapes a bubble of ionised gas around it. The star's intense ultraviolet radiation excites this gas, while emission from the bubble's doubly ionised oxygen is recorded through the OIII filter. WR134 is ultimately expected to end its evolution in a supernova explosion.
