IC 410 and IC 417 – Nebulae in Auriga
IC 410 is a turbulent emission nebula made of dust and ionized gas, energized by the young open cluster NGC 1893 located within it, whose stars appear roughly aligned north to south. It lies 1° 32' east of the well-known Flaming Star Nebula and, in appearance, resembles the Rosette Nebula in Monoceros. It has an apparent size of 40.0 × 30.0 arcminutes, an approximate diameter of 100 light-years, an apparent magnitude of +10.0, and is located about 12,000 light-years away. IC 417 is a bright nebula located 1° 27' northeast of IC 410, with an apparent size of 13.0 × 10.0 arcminutes and an apparent magnitude of +10.0.
